Bad Friday

Posted: December 30, 2005 in General

I lost my iPod Nano in the Home Depot parking lot on Friday. I didn’t realize it until a number of hours later when I “wondered” where the iPod had gotten to. The ironic thing is that Cara almost lost her cell phone and pager the same evening (if it weren’t for a good samaritan they too would be gone). I’m a little frustrated with myself (because I know exactly when it slipped out of my pocket).

I will probably order another one this next week (I guess that’s one way to avoid scratches, just buy a new one)! I’ll get white again, but this time I will get some kind of sleeve for it.

Holiday Shwag

The last two weekends have been holiday weekends, but have not felt all that festive (I’m not quite sure why). We invited Cara’s father and step-mother down the weekend before Christmas, we invited her mother and step-father down for Christmas eve (along with her brother), and we journeyed over to my parent’s to celebrate Christmas with my side of the family.

I felt somewhat unprepared and uninspired this year, and our gifts may have shown that. We were down to the wire for some, and we just picked items off their list. For others we bought things on our honeymoon that we gave.

For Cara I splurged (knowing that it was a gift that I would make use of, and something she has been wanting for a while), and I bought her a Canon Digital Rebel. She bought me an aluminum racing jack for the Lotus and a case of Dr. Pepper (with real sugar instead of corn syrup). I picked up some other toys from family members (including 3 copies of the same book, and some toys for the Nano). Overall I wasn’t disappointed, but that said I plan on making sure next year is a bit more festive.

I saw The Chronicals of Narnia tonight. I was much more interested in seeing this compared to Lord of the Rings. I know that they are quite different movies, and Narnia’s scale doesn’t really compare. Narnia’s story is simpler, but in some ways more fantastic (it’s fiction based in reality, rather than complete fiction). Overall I think it was a more entertaining movie.

I think it was probably one of the best movies this year and I’m glad that it was done so well. I have a feeling that we’ll see a couple more (at least).

I have to admit that since it’s probably been 15+ years since I’ve read the books, I want to re-read them now (talk about spoliers for the movie)!

I took a personal day today, so that Cara and I could go to New York City to see Spamalot. True to my nature I didn’t plan things out too well though. We didn’t really decide we were going to take the train until this morning, but by the time we left the house we were late.

Snow blows

Posted: December 5, 2005 in General, House

This year’s odd weather behavior continues. We went from snow and 20 degrees, back up into the 60’s last week only to return to snow and cold weather over the weekend. Usually it doesn’t bother snowing until after Christmas, but this year we’re wasting no time I guess. On the up side, I guess we moved in at the right time. On the down side, we’ve had to manually shovel our driveway and sidewalk twice already.

Wasting very little time, I decided to bite the bullet and buy a snow blower (it wasn’t a question of if, but when, and mother nature convinced me that sooner is better). With that in mind I drove over to W.H. Preuss & Sons in Manchester and purchased a new Husqvarna snow blower. Of course it won’t be delivered until after the next two days of snow, after that I’m sure Murphy will forecast no snow until well into January.

I guess if my $950 snow blower can hold off the elements for another month, then I won’t complain (too much).
