You've been spammed

Posted: January 3, 2006 in Computing, General

I was editing the previous post, and I notice that I had a notice in my control panel that I had 384 comments in moderation. Holy crap. I rarely get comments, and right now the only comments that even go into moderation (rather than being posted right away) are posts containing certain keywords (one of the many nice features in Word Press). All 384 were spam, mostly online poker sites, but some for ring tones (and a few other various sites).

It’s a sorry state when a few people try to take advantage of the system for their own purposes. The worst part is that I’m sure that this is an automated process that just blasts away so I can’t even take comfort in the fact that someone at least had to spend the 15-20 seconds inserting this stuff into my blog.

It looks like all the spam was caught by the process, but how long will that last before they get around that? Then I have to add additional security to prevent further spamming. What a waste of resources.

UPDATE:
In the 12 hours since originally erasing the 384 comments in moderation, an additional 17 were posted. Something will have to be done about this.
