Hagar done again.

I read a new article today about David Lee Roth commenting that he thought that a reunion with Van Halen was a certainty (a when, not an “if”). Of course this made me wonder why I hadn’t heard anything about Sammy being out (I was under the impression that he was still front man). I guess not, after some digging (not found on Van Halen’s Web site or the Van Halen News Desk), I ran across this article describing how Sammy (a happy-go-lucky guy) was pretty disgusted with Alex (apparently a drinking, smoking train wreck of depression).

So I think Hagar is done, probably for good this time. I have to say this doesn’t really bother me that much though. I do feel a little disappointed that I didn’t spend the $100+ a ticket to see them when they toured (for perhaps the last time). I can’t say I was super impressed with what I’ve heard from them since Balance, so perhaps this is for the better (and Sammy’s solo/Waboritas music is quite good in it’s own right).

Maybe Dave’s right, and he will return to the band some day. Maybe that music will rock when it happens, but I can’t say that I’m going to worry about it if it doesn’t happen. I guess I’ve lost faith, which is too bad. I was hoping we wouldn’t remember Van Halen as the band that rocked for 15 years, then called it quits.

I wonder what Van Halen would sound like with a different guitarist?

Cutting the wood.

I bought a mighty fine Dewalt rechargable drill on Friday (although it was quite pricy when you include the cost of the iPod I lost). That’s a good start to things, but I have plenty of other tools that I need around the house (and a bunch more that I would like to have).

I’ve known for a while that I was going to be needing a table saw (there are some things that my circular saw or compound miter saw just won’t cut). Today I received an email from with a refurbed Dewalt table saw. The price was right (and I don’t have to worry about how to get it home), so I bought it.

The saw isn’t anything spectacular. It’s portable (which is nice), but it does look like the stand (that I had to pay extra for), may be a little too “slight” for cutting larger stuff. I guess we’ll see how it works in real life (perhaps I’ll need a more permanant base).

The production…

Woke up late (about 10:30) and felt very unproductive. I walked around in a haze for a couple of hours before climbing back in bed for a two hour nap. I woke up feeling quite refreshed and decided to make a Home Depot run (I tried yesterday, but they were closed).

Feeling productive

I got a reasonable amount of home-ownery stuff done (so far) this weekend. I swapped out the old circular thermostat for a nicer digital one (and moved it to a different wall) yesterday. Today I pulled down the cabinets over the washer and drier so that we can stack the drier on top of the washer. I also did a number of other minor things around the house.

Next weekend I might try rebuilding part of the basement stairs (they’re pretty old, and the risers are warn and slightly unsettling), tomorrow I might try to sort out some of the electrical spider web in the basement, and might go as far as starting to install some exterior lighting.
