Back in the saddle again…

TigerSo I finally did it. Last night after struggling with the wireless networking under 10.5 I reinstalled 10.4 on my machine. I just got tired of fighting with mediocrity.

The straw that broke my back was that I couldn’t get the wireless network to reliably stream the TV shows that I bought off iTunes like I have dozens of times in the past (and this was after switching my Airport Extreme base station to 5Ghz mode, which should have been even faster).

Bottom line is that Leopard just doesn’t bring anything worthwhile to the table. It’s been nothing but a pain in the ass.

On a total side note, if you follow my example and go from 10.5 back to 10.4 make sure you turn off File Vault since 10.5 uses a different disk format than 10.4 (and there is no way to read those files in 10.4). I was kicking myself after I realized this. I finally installed Leopard to an external drive (after replacing a dead drive in my Firewire case), and convinced Disk Utility to convert the sparse image to a regular disk image (because even Leopard didn’t want to do anything with the data at first).

Apparently the File Vault issues aren’t the only thing that was changed significantly as part of the 10.4 to 10.5 upgrade, much to the annoyance of other users.
