Quitting is never easy

It’s nice to be loved. When you break up with your girlfriend you finally figure out what kind of relationship you had. All the truth comes out, you find the real truth of character. I think a job is similar.

When you quit your job, you find out how much you really loved it. If you hate your job you hope they have trouble finding a replacement. If you love your job you hope they can find a replacement quickly.

By the same token you find out how much your job loved you back. Everyone wants their boss to ask you to stay, it means that you were a valued employee. The truth is, everyone is replaceable, and it’s rare that your job really loves you (it might like you a lot though).

So, on my four year anniversary I quit my job. I loved my job, and it loved me back. I might even say that my job might have loved me too much.

I’m moving on to something different, something closer to what I really want to do with my life. No, it’s not film, and yes there is some web development involved, but there’s so much more. The next few years will be an interesting ride filled with promise (and probably a lot of hard work). I don’t think I’m going to regret this decision (otherwise we may see how much my old job loved me).
